Blondes and brunettes and redheads oh my! With over a dozen acts celebrating the variety of vaudeville the ministry of burlesque presents a show shorn of pretension that offers ribald humor with a little flash of thighs. Singers, dancers, striptease, comedy and circus acts are presented in salacious style with the proclaimation of “burlesque as it was and as it should be”. If your going along to see tattooed girls wriggle you might want to find a different show. If instead your wanting to see a more nostalgic night of sexy people performing with tongue firmly in cheek then this is the show for you.
The High tease varies from night to night with new performances which can be a pity as some acts like Gypsy Charms and Viva Misadventures can-can are not to be missed. The variation does make it feel that the acts are ill rehearsed. Wardrobe difficulties and timing issues plague them and the order of some of the routines is questionable at best. There are also some issues with the targets of their satire. A dominatrix Thatcher is so used that it barely registers especially when there are targets like Baroness O’Cathain or Hillary Clinton ready made for such attention.
On the whole a good show that highlights some excellent performers High Tease is well on the way to fulfilling its boast of burlesque as it should be. Untill then it’s simply an excellent night’s entertainment.
