Long before the J.K. Rowling’s world of wizards, magic and Quiditch became the favourite children’s books, Roald Dahl occupied her place. Playful, pleasantly rude and utterly fantastic children have always loved these dark little stories, with many kids absolute favourite being his collection of revolting nursery rhymes. This is, then, a perfect choice for a show to bring to the Edinburgh Fringe.
The Roald Dahl Museum and Story Centre has sent two of their best storytellers to the Fringe and they do a stellar job entertaining the noisy children, making them scream with laughter as they lark about, acting the fools and never taking themselves too seriously, as they chase one another through the crowds. They have the children in awe as they squeeze as many laughs from the stories, getting them whipped into a frenzy as the kids excitedly battle with one another as to who gets to volunteer next. Be it re-enacting the infamous story of the three little pigs, the ant eater (who develops a taste for its owners Aunt’s) or gun wielding Little Red Riding Hood, the kids seem to adore every minute of it.
This is a fun filled hour that brilliantly stays true to the menace and playfully dark subject material, their is much to admire from both kids and adults who leave with huge smiles upon their faces.
