There is something slightly unnerving about going into a stand up comedian knowing that there are only five of you in the audience. You know it is going to be one of those awkward social situations where you are going to have to laugh over the top, to make up for the other empty 40 sits. It is good then, that Bec Hill is there to entertain you since, the laughter, will come naturally.
Quirky, funny, innocent, nice and friendly, Bec is adorable on stage. Like a chipmunk on caffeine, she can’t stay still, laughing with you, completely in love with what she does and what she is talking about. Even if her routine might be slightly on the ‘newbie’ front of comedy, her cookie persona makes up for it.
She wants to talk to us about superheroes, she wants to become one. She has done extensive research on the subject, and she is very keen to share it with us. And even if some of the jokes are obvious, and on the ‘father jokes’ side of things, it is a joy to see someone so happy with life, someone who is so giving, someone who, if you are having a bad day, can lift your spirits up easily, within minutes of entering the room.
So what if she still has some stand-up growing up to do. Everyone has to start somewhere, and Bec Hill has thrown herself out there with a well thought, planed out routine, which even if not perfect, is still has some fantastic laugh out loud moments. She might want to be a superhero, but Bec Hill is already a hero to some of us.
