Every performance needs a title than sums up their show perfectly and never has there been a more apt title than Little Gem to sum up this wonderful production.
The plot follows the lives of three generations of women in one family who are all linked by their love of their husband/father/grandfather called Gem, a good man who is dying slowly from a stroke. This play follows all three characters and is endlessly touching and funny, following the sexual exploits of Kay, the grandmother nervous about buying her first vibrator, Lorraine who begins to see a psychiatrist and Amber who may have more than last nights sambuca inside her belly. Each woman has been let down by the men in their lives for completely different reasons.
This is a play about hope, joy and our reliance on others and the cast, Sarh Greene, Hilda Fay and Anita Reeves each do a phenomenal job, beautifully complimenting one another while momentarily breaking your heart and making you roar with laughter.
This is an incredible, mulit-layered character piece that is an absolute joy to watch from beginning to end. This has won a host of awards and in all likely hood will be winning a lot more, make sure you grab yourself a ticket and bring some hankies.
