Three Australian musician-comedians present an hour of smart, hilarious rock songs in their return show, Infinity Rock Explosion. Axis of Awesome are likable, pointedly clever and extremely assured on stage. Beyond the comic element, the group are musically very capable, and their piano, guitar and vocals are supported by witty, well developed stage personas and polished banter.
The group mix dad humour, music nerd humour and a wee touch of cheek, creating a comic package that is hugely well received – between the frequent big laughs, the crowd’s faces are plastered with delighted smiles.
Amid varied content, the trio deliver several deft reinterpretations of modern pop-rock, a heartfelt and bilingual love song, and a special-glasses spectacle that needs to be seen to be believed. The group also publicise and play samples from albums of entertainingly dubious marketability.
Backed up by rapid-fire examples as musical evidence, they surprise with their revelation of the grand secret behind composing a charting pop song. This alone would make it worth seeing the group for a recession-bitten punter, as your investment could turn a good profit! Notwithstanding that, you guarantee yourself an hour of rocking, with laughter!
