Mike Keat astounds as Miguel Mantovani, the ringleader of this seedy yet adorable quartet. The character is one of an aging ex-porn star who finds an extension to his infamy through becoming a club owner, on-stage performer and singer.
The moves courtesy of Miguel’s nephew Arterio and Okinowan lovechild, Kengo San, or Double Penetration as Miguel calls them, are delightfully clever and playful These are artistes of dance and physical humour. With the fourth member of the family, Clememte (“he with the jobbie touch”), on the decks this has the feel of the coolest freakiest club in Havana. Even before the main performance, Clemente gives a really great latin/funk/disco set for around 30 minutes.
With anecdotal segues into Miguel’s history in the adult entertainment industry, the siring of Kengo San and tour bus exploits between catchy and upbeat spicy songs, this show should captivate its audience. Sadly, given the late hour the audience seems preoccupied by their consumption of beer, with random exits and returns by punters throughout the show. These characters are a delight and it seems as if there are places they could go, stories they could tell, if only the audience would sit down and shut up long enough to listen.
Despite that the atmosphere is upbeat and jovial. Regardless of whatever hitches come his way, Miguel simply laughs it off with “is ok for you, is good for me” and encourages the masses to misbehave and get in on the joke. A fun, spirited group of dance and entertainment revolutionaries, catch these guys next time they’re in town.
