Jarlath Regan tends to be told that he is too soft in his comedy routine, that his jokes are always on the safe side, never going too far. It is true that Regan doesn’t come on stage swearing and insulting the audience in search of cheap laughs, but it is also true that he has grown up in the past years and his comedy has become more adult.
Jarlath is a likeable guy next door character, but this works for him, and it compliments his style of stand-up comedy perfectly. This year’s run promises to be a sell-out. Mastering his comedy timings, he throws himself into a hilarious rant about things that we need to learn (or we need to discard) in order to survive today’s lifestyles. His remarks are quick and always hit the spot, never missing a beat. In fact, by the time he closes the show, you are amazed at how quickly the hour has gone past.
As soon as he appears on stage Regan has the audience at his mercy, on the edge of their seats, waiting for the next rapid punch line. His section on life as a married man leaves no one without a smile on their faces, and the auditorium nods in agreement at his observations. And this is what makes Regan the great comedian he is: his stories are those of someone who is just like anyone else in the room. He is an approachable, extremely likeable and funny comedian whose routine has grown and developed to become one of the must see shows of the festival.
