10 Questions – Max and Ivan

Interviews 2010

Describe your show in ten words
Two funny men of different heights and physical appearance (classic).

Describe your company/performer in 10 words.
Max – Lock up your daughters. Iván – Lock up your cardigans.

How did the idea of the show come about. Tell us in 10 words!
Our piece of 70-person ‘devised theatre’ went horribly wrong.

Ten essential items you packed to bring to the Fringe.
Ten flyers. That’ll give us the edge, right? Fuck.

Describe an ideal day for you at the Fringe in 10 words!
Sleep. Sleep. Sleep. Sleep. Sold out show. Drink. Drink. Sex.

First 10 words spoken in your show.
“The following performance has been classified as ‘Sketch Comedy’. It’s…”

Describe the ideal audience member for your show in 10 words.
Sketch comedy enthusiast. Unfazed by male nudity. John Cleese, essentially.

Can you describe your show as a: Food, drink, smell, colour, animal, a school subject, a sound, a form of clothing, piece of stationary and a Hollywood film?

Food: A trifle (fruity, satisfying and lightly alcoholic).
Drink: If it were possible to ferment grapes into some kind of alcoholic beverage, we’d be that. Raisin-juice, we’d call it.
Smell: Hilarity (never smelt hilarity? You haven’t been going to the right shows. Smells a bit like a baboon’s tears, incidentally).
Colour: An incredible blend of the spectrum’s most vibrant, beautiful and powerful colours. This will probably come out brown. So, brown. Brown.
Animal: A crying baboon.
School Subject: Religious Education (an hour of implausible scenarios and hilarious nonsense).
Sound: B# (because we always are. AM I RIGHT FOLKS?)
Clothing: That pair of trousers you like, but you lost down the side of the bed, but now you’ve found them, and there’s a tenner in the back pocket. And that tenner is a really brilliant sketch show.
Piece of Stationery: SKETCH book. AM I RIGHT AGAIN FOLKS? EH?
Hollywood Film: When Harry Met Sally (except ‘Harry’ is the audience and ‘Sally’ is Max and Iván. The orgasm scene is fundamentally unchanged).

Tell us in 10 words the best anecdote from last year’s Fringe or what you are most looking forward to from this year’s run.
Anticipating the instant wealth and success that Fringe comedy promises.

Hairline is 10 this year. Describe the last 10 years of your life… in 10 words!
A slide from optimistic youthful invincibility to alcoholic self-destruction.

You got 30 words to plug your show now… go!
Thirty words? Jesus, finally, some room to breathe. Have you any idea how hard it is to express yourself in ten words? What a ridiculous gimmick. Anyway, our show -

Are you going to miss them? Catch Max and Iván everyday till the 30th at 21:30 at C Central (North Bridge).
