With a title like Lady Garden one assumes that it will be a comedy event that relies purely on vulgarity and ass jokes, however these six women show that not only can sketch comedy be as funny and obscure as stand up but also that it deserves its rightful place in live theatre just as much as on television. Lady Garden allows all of the six comedians to shine individually as well as an ensemble, finding amusement in every corner of society, casting their net from a surgeon’s tables to a helicopter crash and an esoteric comparison of beef to beer. This show will have your sides splitting before you are even half way through.
They use multiple mediums as their comic vocabulary such as monologues, 6 look-a-like children, song, mime and inanimate Russian Dolls and sometimes it is difficult to keep up with the rapid pace of the performance. If there is one criticism of this show it is that some of the sketches seem underdeveloped and the whole piece feels technically under rehearsed with some lighting cues going awry meaning that the subsequent sketch starts before all the previous performers are off stage.
If you are a fan of sketch shows then this is definitely the show for you, if not then it is still worth a look as it will most likely reignite an interest you were previously unaware you had.
