With one of the grandest, and perhaps longest, entrances to a comedians stage show ever, Nick Helm blasts onto stage taking hold of his audience metaphorically by the throat and choking laughter out of them from the onset. He is loud, brash and very very funny. He starts by involving the entire audience in a sing song about how nice it is to meet them, slowly throughout getting more and more of the audience onstage until the roles of comedian and audience are entirely reversed. Needless to say this is thoroughly entertaining as it includes everyone from the outset but also proves to alienate those patrons who fear the dreaded audience participation that ultimately opens most stand up shows.
Helm continues with more audience participation and some exceptionally well written songs that, once you get into his style of humour, are not only hysterical but also have a very poignant message to express. Ultimately Nick Helm is a comedian with something to say and damn the person who stands in his way. However his self-assertive and bumptious comic styling is not for everyone and there are members of his audience who shy into the background just waiting for the hour to be over.
Nick closes his show with a song that has a rather positive message and leaves his spectators with an optimism for the day ahead. A very enjoyable experience overall.
