John and Ollie are a multi-instrumental double act, who supposedly have been slowly getting cabin fever as they drink and bed as many women as possible on the QMII cruise ship.
Using original musical numbers, sketches, audience participation and a rather spectacular cover from the Prodigy, they find lots of comedic potential setting their show on board the ship. Singing about how insanely dull it is for kids, swimming across the stage and reliving an interview night with them casually chatting with a crew member makes for funny entertainment.
The show can be a bit hit and miss, certainly the musical numbers are spot on and their funky little tunes will have the audience tapping their toes as well as giggling. But some of the sketches are a little slap dash. The audience are frequently left bemused, as the comedy duo re-enact the cheese burger scene from Pulp Fiction in funny voices. Also, some of their comedy characters such as Tony the safety mad millionaire leave the audience politely smiling rather than laughing.
But when they hit their mark they do it really well, such as a great moment when they attempt to solve the murder of the cruise ships personal trainer.
These likeable performers bring an energetic enthusiasm to the stage and show bags of potential. If they could just fine-tune some of the colourful characters and remove a few segments that fall flat, they could be one to keep a close eye on.
