Joel Dommett and Eric Lampeart are a comedy double act and from the second they take to the stage the audience are eating out their hands.
Playfully bantering with the audience, they are willing to drop their scripted material and run with audience comments – as in tonight’s case when and unsuspecting fourteen year old is grilled about his masturbation habits, keeping the crowd roaring with laughter, and the poor kid sinking deeper into his seat. This chaotic haphazard style is thrilling to watch but when both boys settle into their own, typical stand up they are equally good.
Joel Dommett, handsome and charming, frantically plays with his fringe as he eagerly discusses some appalling shows he has seen in Edinburgh. There is a life lesson to be learned here, tourists of the Fringe: always be very wary of free shows that feature nudity, he says. His delivery is excellent and while his stand up may not be hilarious it is hard not to be charmed.
Eric Lampaert, charming too but freakishly unique, with his huge mouth and skinny build, delivers a more personal routine. Discussing growing up and looking different, his upbringing and some nice, ‘Where’s Wally?’ running gags, he’s the better comedian. But it is when the boys are both on stage together, when they really shine, playfully feeding off each others energy.
Dommett and Lampaert are thrilling to watch, and you are never sure just what they are going to do next.
