Eight years ago when Dan Antoploski was nominated for the Perrier Comedy Award his combination of intelligent word-play and general silliness was a joy to behold.
Eight half-naked, white-painted bodies wait on the darkened stage as you are politely ushered into the venue. Seven are curled in the foetal position and one stands motionless at the back, as if overseeing proceedings.
“It’s a frightening business, being alive” wails foppish comedian Paul Foot from the temporary solace of an audience member’s lap, having hilariously expounding the finer points of what he considers to be the characteristic nature of existence – “the loneliness”.
If the prologue to Inventing the sky is anything to go by then the weather isn’t the only thing that should warn you off Russian beaches.
